Dear Family,
June 14, 2015 – I arrived last night at camp close to midnight. The other adult advisors were waiting for me and helped me unload my gear. They seemed relieved that I arrived safely.
Later, when I walked up to my cabin to look inside, I saw something move on the ground in front of me. I focused my light on the small critter and found a toad. I suppose he was sent as my welcoming party. He didn’t stay long and wasn’t a very talkative fellow, but it was late and I was tired, so I suppose that’s a good thing. It is very quiet up here. The noise of everyday life in the valley is quickly lost in the deafening silence of these mountains. Today is bright and cool. The birds are singing to us and an occasional insect seems to want to announce its presence. It is still and peaceful.
